WeCare

We can’t save the world alone, but we can all make a difference. At Hotel Christiania Teater, we believe that small actions truly matter, for people, the planet, and our local community. Through WeCare, we commit to creating real change, guided by heart, respect for history, and a belief in quality. Our goal is to offer a welcoming home for our guests while taking responsibility: for the nature that surrounds us, for being a good neighbor, for fair working conditions, and for a sustainable future. Our WeCare philosophy is about more than words, it’s about conscious choices: products, processes, and partnerships that truly make an impact.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

We are currently transitioning from our ISO 14001 certification to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel – the official sustainability certification for the Nordic countries. It sets strict standards for energy use, waste management, chemicals, and working conditions. As part of this commitment, we also require our suppliers to meet high ethical and environmental standards.

Less Is More

Ever wondered why the plates at breakfast are small? It’s our way of reducing food waste. Our organic breakfast is built on a “less is more” philosophy, where quality ingredients matter more than quantity. We prioritize locally sourced products, Debio-certified organics, and fair trade options, so you can start the day with a meal that is both delicious and sustainable.

Sweet Dreams x Unicef

We have an ongoing partnership with UNICEF. For every night our guests choose to forego room cleaning, we make a donation of 1 euro to support UNICEF’s work. By participating, our guests help combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable children. Through the Sweet Dreams project, we are committed to making a meaningful and lasting impact.

Coffee That Matters

Our coffee is more than just great taste, it’s responsibly sourced. We serve Contessa from Det Norske Kaffehus, which is 100% Fairtrade and ethically produced, supporting people and the environment. Choosing this coffee also contributes to 13 of the UN’s 17 global sustainability goals. Together with our sister hotels, we serve over 2,900 cups of coffee every hour, so responsible sourcing matters. The in-room capsules are recyclable and part of our commitment to reducing waste.

Small Changes, Big Impact

We’ve said goodbye to single-use toiletries and replaced them with large refillable bottles in every bathroom. This helps us cut down on plastic waste while still offering you everything you need for a comfortable stay. By hanging up your towel, you join us in saving both water and energy, and together we can make a real difference. To further reduce unnecessary waste, we provide room amenities only upon request. Simply contact our reception, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Dripdrop Umbrellas

Through our partnership with Dripdrop, every umbrella borrowed at the hotel helps protect the planet. Thanks to our guests, Dripdrop has planted 1,000,000 trees! These trees are restoring ecosystems, reducing carbon emissions, and creating jobs in local communities. Now, the focus has shifted to tackling plastic pollution. Each umbrella cleans up the equivalent of 6 plastic bottles before they reach the ocean, removing 4.5 times more plastic than it uses, and is made entirely from recycled plastic bottles.

Room For All

At Hotel Christiania Teater, everyone is welcome. No matter who you are or who you love, our doors are always open. As part of the Strawberry family, we are proud to stand with the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride and every day of the year. We believe every guest should feel safe, seen and celebrated. Our stage has always been a home for big emotions and we take pride in creating a space where every story belongs.

Lonely Christmas Tree

Every December we join Strawberrys “Lonely Christmas Tree” tradition, inviting our guests and community to drop off presents under the tree in our lobby, so children and families in need can have something special to unwrap come Christmas Eve. Together with our sister hotels, we’ve donated hundreds of thousands of Christmas presents to children and families in vulnerable situations. Each one a reminder that a small gesture can brighten someone’s holiday. It’s our way of sharing hope, warmth, and the spirit of giving.
